My trip to Iconic Sinhgad Fort

KILLE SINHGAD

Image result for sinhgad killaIf you are travelling to Pune then visit to Sinhgad fort is kind of must to do. This is one place near Pune which is history in itself. This fort has witnessed numerous battles in 15th century. This is the fort where Veer Shivaji began his journey and fought many battles against Mughals.

Ownership of the fort kept on shuffling between Shiva and Mughals. Indeed, it will require a separate book to bring that chapter of history here. Today this fort stands tall with all its glory.

“We captured fort but lost the lion”, said Shivaji when Veer Tanaji sacrificed his life while capturing fort from Mughals. Since then it is known as 'Sinhgad' (Lion's home).

On one Saturday morning of October, I and Karthik decided to visit this historic fort. Weather was awesome after showers of rain. We started at 0500 hrs from Wagholi and followed route via Khed. There is another approach to the Fort from Khadakwasla side.

We drove around 45 Km and it took us almost one hour to reach at the bottom of hills. We parked our vehicle in front of a restaurant and then began trekking as weather was pleasant and surroundings were lush green.

Surprisingly, a pack of dogs was giving us company throughout the 5 km trekking route. May be they were habitual of that route but it was pleasant company. After almost one and half hour of walking we reached KILLE SINHGARH.

Heart was full of pride that I was standing in front of historical place that witnessed brave history of Marathas.

Many groups of people came trekking from different directions. Many people were kind of regular to go for walk till fort. At first, It was looking a small place but as we kept on moving inside, it also kept on increasing, in fact we could not cover complete range. There are different fort gates on each side of hill.

Ruins here encompasses journey of 2000 years old history. Many old Cannons are placed at various places in the fort.

Today it is one of major tourist place around Pune and can be considered as trekker’s delight due to its topography. From top of the fort we can see sprawling lakes, valley and NDA area on other side of city.

We were absolutely hungry on reaching at the top and it was sheer delight to see many dhabas serving vegetarian delicacies. We had Pittal- Bhakari, Matka-Dahi, Onion-Bhajia and even tasty Pan. Many shops also sell fruits, Salad and snacks. You will definitely get something of your choice in these shops.

Around 1100 hrs we decided to come back and took lift in taxi from the nearby taxi stand till the place where our vehicle was parked.

This trip was so refreshing and wonderful. More over it was great stress buster after hectic week. Hope you all also enjoyed with us..
